Tiken Jah Fakoly is a prominent reggae artist from Côte d'Ivoire. Born in 1968 in Odienné, he began his musical career in 1987 with the group Djelys. His notable albums include "Mangercratie" (1996), "Françafrique" (2002), "Coup de gueule" (2004), and "L'Africain" (2007). Fakoly is known for his lyrics that critique social and political issues in Africa, and his music supports the pan-African movement. Due to his political views, he has lived in exile in Mali since 2003. In 2008, he received the inaugural Freemuse Award for his commitment to freedom of expression.
