Tom Rainey is an American jazz drummer born in 1957 in Santa Barbara, California. After studying at Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York in 1979, collaborating with notable musicians such as Tim Berne, Nels Cline, and Fred Hersch. In 2010, he released his debut album "Pool School" with a trio featuring saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and guitarist Mary Halvorson. This was followed by "Camino Cielo Echo" (2012) and "Obbligato" (2014). Rainey is recognized for his contributions to avant-garde jazz and his collaborations with various artists in the genre.
