Ton Koopman is a Dutch conductor, organist, and harpsichordist renowned for his dedication to Baroque music and historically informed performance. He studied organ, harpsichord, and musicology in Amsterdam, earning the Prix d'Excellence for both instruments. In 1979, he founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, followed by the Amsterdam Baroque Choir in 1992, which combined to form the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir. Among his significant projects is the recording of the complete cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach, for which he received awards such as the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis "Echo Klassik" and the BBC Award. Koopman also serves as president of the International Dieterich Buxtehude Society and, since 2019, as president of the Bach Archive in Leipzig.
