Ton Koopman is a Dutch conductor, organist, harpsichordist, and musicologist, known as the founder and director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir. He studied organ, harpsichord, and musicology at the Amsterdam Conservatory, earning the Prix d'Excellence for both instruments. Koopman specializes in Baroque music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude. His extensive discography includes the complete Bach cantatas and organ works, as well as the complete works of Buxtehude. In 2003, he was knighted in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Koopman also serves as a professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and Leiden University.
