Tubeway Army was a London-based new wave band led by Gary Numan. Formed in 1977 during the peak of punk rock, the band gradually transitioned to an electronic sound. Their second album, "Replicas," released in April 1979, featured the single "Are 'Friends' Electric?" which reached number one on the UK charts. Following this success, Numan continued his music career under his own name, retaining the members of Tubeway Army as his backing band.
