Uncle Tupelo was an American alternative country music group from Belleville, Illinois, active between 1987 and 1994. The band consisted of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heidorn. Their 1990 debut album, "No Depression," is considered pivotal in the emergence of the alternative country genre. Throughout their career, they released four studio albums, with "Anodyne" in 1993 being their final release before disbanding. After the breakup, Farrar formed Son Volt, while Tweedy continued with Wilco. Their music blended elements of punk rock and traditional country, influencing many subsequent artists in the genre.
