Description

Modesto Duran, a Cuban-born disciple of mambo innovator Perez Prado, was a pivotal figure in Latin dance music's mid-20th-century transition. His gentle conga slaps graced numerous 1950s mega-hits, from Esquivel to Belafonte, Eartha Kitt to Lena Horne. On his 1960 solo debut, Duran assembled a who's who of conga players, including Mongo Santamaría, Willie Bobo, and Juan Cheda, delivering a cinematic and percussive blend of Afro-Cuban, cha-cha, and exotic jazz styles for the discerning listener. This album is now available in a limited 'Sangre de Chango' red vinyl edition, releasing on July 26, 2024.
