Vusi Mahlasela is a South African singer-songwriter known for his distinctive voice and poetic lyrics. Born in Pretoria and raised in the Mamelodi Township, he taught himself to play guitar and began writing his own songs. His music, often described as "African folk," focuses on themes of freedom, forgiveness, and reconciliation. In 1994, he performed at Nelson Mandela's inauguration. Notable albums include "When You Come Back" (1992), "Wisdom of Forgiveness" (1994), and "Silang Mabele" (1997). In 2012, he received the SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award.
