When in Rome was an English synth-pop band from Manchester, consisting of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, and keyboardist Michael Floreale. Formed in 1987, they are best known for their 1988 hit "The Promise," which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Their sole studio album, "When in Rome," was released in 1988. After the original lineup disbanded in 1990, the members pursued various projects, with Floreale later forming When in Rome II.
