William Christie is an American-French conductor and harpsichordist specializing in Baroque and Classical music. In 1979, he founded the ensemble Les Arts Florissants, focusing on the performance of French Baroque music. Notable recordings include Jean-Baptiste Lully's "Atys" and Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Médée." Christie served as a professor at the Paris Conservatoire and, in 2002, established Le Jardin des Voix, an academy for young singers. He obtained French citizenship in 1995 and has been honored with several awards, including the Grand Croix de la Légion d'honneur in 2014.
