Doug Lofstrom is an American composer who has been creating works in dance, film, theater, and symphonic music since the 1970s. He served as composer-in-residence for the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra and as musical director of Chicago's Free Street Theater. His compositions have been performed by numerous American symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles. The album "Music for Strings" comprises four pieces Lofstrom began composing in the late 1970s, including the three-movement composition of the same name, originally recorded in 1984 and premiered by the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra. This album presents these works with fresh interpretations by Moscow's Russian String Orchestra, conducted by Misha Rachlevsky.
