June Tyson was an American singer, violinist, and dancer, renowned for her long-term collaboration with jazz composer Sun Ra. Hailing from Albemarle, North Carolina, she worked as a singer in Harlem during the 1960s. In 1968, she joined the Sun Ra Arkestra, where she remained until her death in 1992. Beyond her vocal contributions, Tyson also served as the band's costume designer, choreographer, and violinist. Her voice is featured on numerous Sun Ra recordings, including the 2019 album "Saturnian Queen of the Sun Ra Arkestra," which showcases some of her most significant performances.
