In 1983, he co-founded the Rebirth Brass Band, which blended traditional New Orleans jazz with funk and bebop influences. In 1992, he formed the Barbecue Swingers, releasing albums such as "The Barbecue Swingers Live" and "Swing This!". Ruffins is known for his energetic performances and regular gigs in New Orleans, where he often cooks barbecue for his fans. His music is influenced by Louis Armstrong and Louis Jordan, focusing on traditional jazz and rhythm and blues.
