New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston in 1978. Originally consisting of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Ronnie DeVoe, the group gained fame with hits like "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now." In 1986, Bobby Brown departed for a solo career and was replaced by Johnny Gill. Their 1988 album "Heart Break," produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, featured hits such as "If It Isn't Love" and "Can You Stand the Rain." Throughout their career, New Edition influenced the formation of other boy bands like New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men.
