Sleepy John Estes was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter, known for his "crying" vocal style. Born in Ripley, Tennessee, he grew up in Brownsville. He began his musical career in the 1920s and recorded his first tracks for Victor Records in 1929. His songs, such as "Diving Duck Blues" and "Milk Cow Blues," often reflected his personal experiences and life in Tennessee. Throughout his career, he collaborated with musicians like Yank Rachell and Hammie Nixon. In the 1960s, he was rediscovered during the blues revival and continued recording and performing until his death in 1977.
