Sounds of Unity and Love (S.O.U.L.) was an American soul group formed in 1970 in Cleveland, Ohio. The original members were Lee Lovett (bass), Gus Hawkins (saxophone/flute), Paul Stubblefield (drums), and Walter Winston (guitar). In 1971, Larry Hancock (vocals/organ) joined, and in 1972, Bernard (Beloyd) Taylor (guitar) replaced Winston. The group secured a recording contract with Musicor Records after winning a battle-of-the-bands contest in 1970. Their debut single, "Down in the Ghetto," was released in 1971. They released two studio albums: "What Is It" (1971) and "Can You Feel It?" (1972). After disbanding in 1975, members pursued various musical projects, with Taylor moving to Los Angeles and collaborating with Earth, Wind & Fire on the song "Getaway" in 1976.
