Taj Mahal, born Henry St. Claire Fredericks Jr. in 1942 in New York City, is an American blues musician. Over his more than 50-year career, he has released significant albums such as "Taj Mahal" (1968), "The Natch'l Blues" (1968), and "Giant Step/De Ole Folks at Home" (1969). His music blends blues with elements of Caribbean, African, and Hawaiian music. He has collaborated with artists like Ry Cooder and Keb' Mo'. Mahal has won five Grammy Awards, including for "Señor Blues" in 1997 and "TajMo" in 2018. In 2025, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.
