Théodore Dubois was a French composer, organist, and educator who lived from 1837 to 1924. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1861. Among his significant works is the oratorio "Le Paradis Perdu," first performed in 1878 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Dubois was influenced by composers such as Hector Berlioz and Charles Gounod. In addition to his compositional work, he served as the organist at La Madeleine church and later as the director of the Paris Conservatoire.
