Yma Sumac was a Peruvian singer renowned for her extraordinary vocal range of approximately five octaves. Born on September 13, 1922, in Callao, Peru, she began her career in the 1940s. Her 1950 debut album, "Voice of the Xtabay," became an international success. Throughout the 1950s, she released other successful albums such as "Mambo!" and "Legend of the Sun Virgin." Sumac was known for her exotic style and performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. She passed away on November 1, 2008, in Los Angeles, USA.
