Your Friend is the stage name of Taryn Blake Miller, a musician from Winfield, Kansas, who later relocated to New York. Miller identifies as GNC/trans-masculine and uses they/them pronouns. In 2014, they released their first EP titled "Jekyll/Hyde" under Domino Recording Company. This was followed by the debut album "Gumption" in 2016. Their music is characterized as indie rock with elements of neo-psychedelia and slowcore. Miller studied music at Cowley Community College and later pursued linguistics at the University of Kansas.
