Zakir Hussain was an Indian tabla player and composer, renowned for his virtuosity and contributions to popularizing Indian classical music worldwide. Born in Bombay, he was the son of esteemed tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha. Hussain was a founding member of the group Shakti, which blended Indian music with jazz. He collaborated with artists such as John McLaughlin, Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Jan Garbarek. Notable albums include "Making Music" (1987). Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards and India's Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan honors.
