Boris Christoff was a Bulgarian opera singer, considered one of the greatest basses of the 20th century. Born in Plovdiv, he initially studied law but later pursued a career in singing. He made his operatic debut in 1946 as Colline in La bohème. His most renowned role was Tsar Boris in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, which he performed on leading stages worldwide. Other significant roles included Philip II in Verdi's Don Carlo and Mephistopheles in Gounod's Faust. Christoff was known for his rich, dark voice and dramatic expression. He also recorded Russian songs and was the first to record all 63 of Mussorgsky's songs. He passed away in Rome in 1993. The products available from the artist Boris Christoff include CDs.
