Bronski Beat was a British synth-pop band formed in 1983 in London. The original lineup consisted of Steve Bronski, Larry Steinbachek, and Jimmy Somerville. Their 1984 debut album, "The Age of Consent," featured the hit "Smalltown Boy," addressing themes of homophobia and alienation. The album achieved success in Europe and the USA. After Somerville's departure in 1985, the band continued with new members, releasing "Truthdare Doubledare" in 1986. Bronski Beat was known for their open approach to LGBTQ+ themes, contributing to increased awareness of gay rights in the 1980s.
