Calefax is a Dutch reed quintet formed in 1985 in Amsterdam. The ensemble consists of Oliver Boekhoorn (oboe), Ivar Berix (clarinet), Raaf Hekkema (saxophone), Jelte Althuis (bass clarinet), and Alban Wesly (bassoon). They are renowned for their virtuosic performances and innovative arrangements, with a repertoire spanning from medieval to contemporary music, including jazz and improvisation. Calefax regularly collaborates with artists such as Ivo Janssen, Cora Burggraaf, and the Tony Overwater Trio. They have released several albums, including "Dido & Aeneazz" and "Hidden Gems". The group has received awards like the Philip Morris Arts Prize (1997) and the VSCD Classical Music Award (2005).
