Description

'Serpent & Fire' is the debut recital of German soprano Anna Prohaska under the Alpha Classics label, released on September 5, 2016. This album explores the characters of two African queens, Dido and Cleopatra, through Baroque arias by composers such as Cavalli, Handel, Purcell, and Hasse, as well as lesser-known figures like Sartorio and Graupner. Prohaska delivers these virtuosic and tragic pieces with the passion and intensity that have earned her acclaim on the world's opera stages. She is accompanied by the renowned Baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, under the direction of Giovanni Antonini, who also contributes as a recorder soloist. This album is a must-have for enthusiasts of Baroque music and vocal artistry.
