'Protect Your Light' is the latest album by Irreversible Entanglements, released on September 8, 2023, under Impulse! Records. This album blends elements of jazz, hip-hop, global music traditions, and spoken word, with the quintet (vocalist/poet Camae Ayewa, saxophonist Keir Neuringer, bassist Luke Stewart, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, and drummer Tcheser Holmes) delivering bold improvisations driven by Ayewa's poetry about the Black experience, love, power, community, and liberation. The album was recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where jazz greats like John Coltrane have also recorded.
