Schelomo, originally conceived for voice, is the most celebrated part of Bloch's Jewish Cycle, where the cello embodies the character of Solomon. The Suite for Viola and Piano, composed in 1919, is presented here in an orchestral version for cello, crafted by Adolph Baller and Gábor Rejtő. This album features the world premiere recording of this version with renowned cellist Parry Karp, who studied under Rejtő. Under the baton of conductor Kenneth Woods and accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, this recording brings Bloch's music to life with profound emotional depth and masterful execution.
