'Wo die Lerche singt' is an operetta by Franz Lehár, set in a Hungarian village and Budapest at the beginning of the 20th century. The story follows the unfortunate love of a village girl, Margit, for a painter named Sandor, who takes her to the big city. Margit soon realizes that city life does not suit her, and when Sandor returns to his former love, Vilma, she decides to return to her native village, where she finds solace with her friend Pista. Lehár masterfully combines Hungarian and Viennese musical elements in this operetta, creating a unique musical experience.
