David Berkman is an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where he played in house bands for jazz musicians such as Sonny Stitt and Hank Crawford. In 1985, he moved to New York City. He has released several albums, including "Handmade" (1998), "Communication Theory" (2000), "Leaving Home" (2002), and "Start Here, Finish There" (2004). Berkman is known for his contributions to the post-bop genre and has collaborated with artists like Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, and Tom Harrell. He serves as a professor at Queens College in New York and is a visiting professor at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in the Netherlands.
