Dr. Hook is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Union City, New Jersey. Originally known as Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, the band achieved commercial success in the 1970s with hits like "Sylvia's Mother" (1972), "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" (1973), and "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" (1979). Their music blended elements of country rock, soft rock, and pop. The band collaborated with poet Shel Silverstein, who wrote several songs for them.
