Duke Pearson was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger who significantly contributed to the hard bop scene of the 1960s. As the artistic director of Blue Note Records from 1963, he influenced the label's direction and produced recordings for artists like Donald Byrd and Grant Green. Pearson's discography includes albums such as "Wahoo!" (1964), "The Right Touch" (1967), and "The Phantom" (1968). His composition "Jeannine" became a jazz standard. Pearson collaborated with musicians like Joe Henderson and James Spaulding. In the 1970s, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, from which he died in 1980.
