Flatt and Scruggs were an American bluegrass duo consisting of singer and guitarist Lester Flatt and banjo player Earl Scruggs. Both were members of Bill Monroe's band, the Blue Grass Boys, from 1945 to 1948, when they decided to form their own group, the Foggy Mountain Boys. Their unique style, combining Flatt's rhythmic guitar playing and Scruggs's innovative banjo technique, helped define modern bluegrass. Among their most notable songs are "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," which became the theme song for the television series The Beverly Hillbillies. The duo disbanded in 1969 due to artistic differences. In 1985, they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
