Jackie McLean was an American jazz alto saxophonist born in Harlem, New York City. In 1962, he recorded the album "Let Freedom Ring" for the Blue Note label, which is considered one of his most significant works. The album features tracks like "Melody for Melonae" and "Omega". McLean was known for his contributions to the hard bop and post-bop genres and collaborated with artists such as Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. Beyond his musical career, he founded the Artists Collective in Hartford, Connecticut, an arts center focused on youth, and led the jazz program at the University of Hartford.
