Leonard Slatkin is an internationally acclaimed American conductor, author, and composer. Born in Los Angeles to a musical family, he studied at the Juilliard School. He has served as music director for several major orchestras, including the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. His recordings have earned five Grammy Awards and over 50 nominations. Slatkin is known for his commitment to music education, having collaborated with leading music schools in the United States. In 2003, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
