Lonnie Donegan was a British singer and musician, known as the "King of Skiffle". Born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in England, he began his career in the traditional jazz movement before transitioning to skiffle in the mid-1950s. His 1956 recording of "Rock Island Line" achieved international success and spurred the skiffle movement in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, he had 31 UK top 30 singles, including three number ones. In 2000, he was awarded an MBE for his contributions to music.
