Rokia Traoré is a Malian singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for her unique blend of traditional African music with Western styles such as rock and folk. Born on January 24, 1974, in Kolokani, Mali, she is a member of the Bambara ethnic group. She has released six albums between 1998 and 2016, including "Mouneïssa" (1998), "Wanita" (2000), "Bowmboï" (2003), "Tchamantché" (2008), "Beautiful Africa" (2013), and "Né So" (2016). Her album "Bowmboï" won the Critics Award at the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in 2004, and "Tchamantché" was awarded World Music Album of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique in 2009. Traoré is known for incorporating traditional instruments such as the balafon, n'goni, and kora, as well as acoustic guitar and electric bass, into her arrangements.
