Steve Goodman was an American folk and country singer-songwriter from Chicago. His best-known song, "City of New Orleans," was recorded by artists such as Arlo Guthrie, John Denver, and Willie Nelson, whose version won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1985. Goodman also co-wrote "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," popularized by David Allan Coe. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he wrote the team's anthem "Go Cubs Go." In 1983, he released the album "Affordable Art" on his own label, Red Pajamas Records. Goodman passed away from leukemia in 1984 at the age of 36.
