The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B vocal group formed in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, by Roebuck "Pops" Staples and his children Cleotha, Pervis, and Mavis. The group gained fame in the 1970s with hits like "Respect Yourself" and "I'll Take You There". Their music blended gospel with elements of soul and R&B, often conveying social and political messages. In 1999, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2005, they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
