Description

Kronos Quartet celebrates its 50th anniversary with the release of their award-winning album 'Black Angels' on black vinyl. Originally released in 1990, this album features George Crumb's title piece, which inspired David Harrington to found the quartet in 1973, along with works by Charles Ives, István Márta, Thomas Tallis, and Dmitri Shostakovich. Crumb's composition, described by the New York Times as 'an unusually elevated and searing Vietnam War protest,' sets a dark and powerful tone for this collection, addressing the political, physical, and spiritual consequences of war. The fourth side of the vinyl includes an etching of an illustration by Matt Mahurin, whose work is featured on the original album cover. The Evening Standard included this album among its '100 Definitive Classical Albums of the 20th Century.'
