Savatage is an American heavy metal band founded by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva in 1979 in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Originally known as Avatar, the band changed its name to Savatage before releasing their debut album "Sirens" in 1983. Their fourth album, "Hall of the Mountain King" (1987), produced by Paul O'Neill, marked a shift towards progressive metal. Notable albums include "Gutter Ballet" (1989), "Streets: A Rock Opera" (1991), and "Edge of Thorns" (1993). Following Criss Oliva's tragic death in 1993, the band continued to create music and influenced the formation of Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
