Waldemar Bastos was an Angolan musician who blended afropop, fado, and Brazilian influences. Born in M'banza-Kongo, Angola, he began his musical career in 1982 with the album "Estamos Juntos." His 1998 album "Pretaluz," produced by Arto Lindsay, received international acclaim for its unique sound combining traditional Angolan rhythms with contemporary styles. Bastos collaborated with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1999, he was awarded the World Music Award as New Artist of the Year.
